Hi y’all, how’s the last month or so been treating you?
I took some time away from writing as I was getting settled back into life in Cayman… It’s been a hectic few weeks.
With a number of videography and editing gigs coming up, I’ve been pleasantly busy. I’ve never really been one for video editing, but the last couple months have given me a new perspective on it, and allowed me to gain a deeper appreciation for it. It’s been fun to buckle down and get some real work done again.
I’ve also had a lot of time to think about where my life is going to go from here, and while I haven’t settled on a path just yet, the future is a lot brighter and clearer than previously. I’ve been interviewing for and applying to various jobs on-island, some of which have gone well, and other which have left want. With each interview I learn one or two things about myself and the way in which I present myself, which I'm then able to use in the next one.
I will say that the potential job market is dwindling now that I’ve applied to most of the ones even remotely related to my field of “expertise”. It’s just a waiting game at this point. I’ve done everything I can in terms of looking for and applying to jobs wherever I can.
An interesting revelation I recently had is how little I actually know. Even in the domains I’ve spent the better part of a decade engrossed by. Stepping outside of your comfort zone really is the only way to truly learn. That practical experience exposes you to new ways of looking at the problem at hand (like I said above with video editing). It forces you to confront the unknown and become familiar with it. It’s a humbling ritual, but one that ultimately leads to a better version of yourself. By boldly confronting your own ignorance, you learn to grow. But not just in the particular domain you’re pursuing - you grow as a person. It helps you understand the world better, it helps you think more critically, it helps you take on future challenges with grace.
So I guess we’ll see where life takes me next. Until I find out, I’ll still be here, jotting down these little snippets of my life, pouring myself into my screenplays, and putting myself out there for video work. It’s a weird time to be alive, but its also exciting.
Until next time.
Pax.
